I had this question when I embarked on my personal development journey to better deal with difficult thoughts and emotions. I wanted the freedom to choose my own thoughts and inner dialogue, rather than letting my mind run me.

But how does one achieve that? For me, much of the power of positive thought comes from writing, saying, and meditating on affirmations. When my inner dialogue is pleasant, I can trust life and myself. These are some powerful words of affirmation I sometimes use:

On Body Positivity

I deserve to feel safe, comfortable and confident in this body.

I accept myself the way I am. My body is perfect the way it is.

I am at peace with my body.

I allow love to fill every inch of my skin, and I will embrace the warmth this love gives to me.

I am grateful to be living in this divine female body.

Even though I’ve felt ashamed of (body part), I commit to changing it.

If my body requires healing, I will take joy in doing it.

My body is a tremendous gift, and I will treat it with love and kindness.

My body is my responsibility, and I will do what’s best for me, for me.

My (body part) is perfect the way it is.

On Confidence & Abundance

I trust that I have the capability to achieve my goals.

I am worthy of accomplishment, success, and abundance.

I manifest my full potential to being.

I can powerfully attract what I want.

I move in alignment with my highest self. I affirm my ability to merge timelines, and rejoice as everything comes to me with ease.

The world is filled with endless opportunities for me.

My mind is clear of self-doubt, and I am ready to embrace every challenge that comes my way.

Every challenge I face is an opportunity to grow and improve.

My contributions are unique and meaningful.

It is enough to have done my best.

On Being A Woman

I love living in my divine female body.

I combine femininity and intelligence beautifully.

My exquisite female body radiates loving kindness to the world.

I give permission to my inner goddess to work her magic.

I embrace being a woman.

I empower myself and all women in the world.

I appreciate the female cycles that my body experiences.

Being a woman is the greatest gift the universe has given to me.

I am a wonderful daughter/mother/sister/partner to my mother/children/siblings/partner.

I am confident in my sexuality.

On Spirituality

All my words, thoughts, and actions are divinely guided and protected.

The universe will guide me on anything and everything divinely.

My mind and body are in complete alignment with the universe.

The universe’s healing power flows through all the cells of my body.

I will fill my heart with the peace of meditation. I will pour heartfuls of my joy into peace-thirsty souls.

Today I am centered in my heart, and closer to Spirit/God/the Universe.

The universe has my back, always.

I open my mind and heart to the perfect love of God/Spirit/the Universe.

I am more than what I see, feel, and think. The wisdom of the whole universe lives inside me.

All is well in my life. I am immensely blessed.

On Joy & Happiness

I commit to living a joyful and happy life.

I choose happiness of this moment, and not pain of the past.

I attract energies and situations that fill me with joy every day.

I recognize all the blessings in my life, and each of them fills me with joy.

The world deserves my authentic happiness.

Every day I am getting happier and happier in every way.

I have all the happiness, love and positive energy I need today to have the most amazing day.

Positive energy nourishes my body, and helps me radiate joy to others.

A happy, joyful life is being created for me right now.

Everywhere I go, I attract joy and happiness.

20 Powerful Daily Affirmations That Could Change Your Life

The Power Of The Positive Affirmation

With the rise of personal growth content and as self-development increasingly taking center stage in our lives, the use of strong affirmations has become extremely popular.

As it turns outs, there’s a lot of science to back up exactly how a simple set of positive words can dramatically improve your mind and body.

In this article, we’ll cover what positive affirmations are and their potent effects on the human brain. We’ll go on to explain the ways you can use them to create more love, health, and general well being in your business and personal life.

We’ll also be sharing our Top 20 Positive Mindvalley Affirmations as well as the 3-step process on how to go about creating your own for any situation life throws at you.

The Definition Of A Positive Affirmation

Positive affirmations are so much more than feel-good quotes on corny memes. In short, affirmations are statements that are used and repeated to encourage and uplift the person speaking them. And they work because they’re written in the language of the brain using a specific formula.

3 Elements Of Successful Affirmations

It turns out, our brains are pretty strict and straightforward about their linguistic rules. Here are the guidelines:

1) Don’t use past or future tenses. Positive affirmations are always in the present. If you see a positive affirmation that says ” I will…,” ” I used to…” or ” I’m going to…” then this is NOT an affirmation. Your brain will only ever optimally respond to positive present tense affirmations such as ” I am calm. “

2) Positive affirmations only include positive words. If you see a ‘positive’ affirmation that has words like ” don’t,” ” can’t” or ” won’t,” it’s not positive! It takes your brain a lot of extra work to evoke meaning from negative statements as it is wired to seek out positive instruction. E.g. – ” I’m never worried” to ” I’m always calm.”

3) Speak confidently, as if your positive affirmation were true – a hard, solid fact. Statements that contain words like ” might” and ” could” aren’t nearly as powerful as statements that contain words like ” am” and ” do“. E.g. – ” I could be calm in every situation” vs. ” I am calm in every situation.” Your brain will respond to this even if secretly you don’t believe it to be accurate. When you come across an affirmation that makes you squirm in discomfort, it’s a good sign that it’s exactly the affirmation you need to repeat.

The Language Of The Brain

Remember how we said that you shouldn’t use the past or future tense when you’re creating an affirmation? That’s because everything that happens is happening in the present moment from your brain’s point of view.

When you think, your brain processes the information literally and prepares you for the action that should immediately follow the thought.

For example, if you think to yourself, ” I’m going to have an amazing time on my date this weekend,” your brain essentially hears ‘ amazing date ‘ and starts firing off all the connections to prepare you for this amazing date to ensure its amazing-ness – mentally organizing which clothes you’ll wear, what you’ll say, how it will feel, etc.

The Dark Side Of Affirmations

Moreover, it only understands positive commands. Have you ever had an emotional experience and told yourself, ” don’t cry,” only to find that you’re sobbing even more? There are actually two things happening in the brain that make phrases like ” don’t cry ” totally counterproductive.

First, when you tell yourself ” don’t cry,” you are giving your brain two different commands. The first command is ‘ don’t‘ and the second is ‘ cry ‘.

You can process the two words together and consciously understand their meaning, but your brain hears the word ‘ cry‘ and the subconscious begins to activate the neural connections for that command.

Unfortunately, after all that work, you haven’t given your brain an action to take instead of crying. In the end, you’re essentially telling yourself to cry, over and over again.

How To Instruct Your Brain For Success

The next time you’re in a situation where you want to experience the opposite emotion, think of that opposite emotion and command yourself to do that instead.

Instead of, ” don’t cry,” try, ” I am calm,” instead and see what happens.

Remember, your brain is a creature of habit, always looking for instructions, and is eager to set you up for success – all you have to do is instruct it in a language it understands, and keep repeating it. This is why positive affirmations are so powerful and consequently uncover the secret to positive thinking.
