Animation effects in PowerPoint provide smooth visual transitions between different states of your presentation by moving objects in place or around the slide canvas. Motion evokes the most basic human instincts and naturally attracts the attention of the eye. Used well, animation makes the viewing experience engaging and dynamic.

The main idea of using animations is not just to make content interactive and entertaining, but also to draw viewers’ attention to the key points and therefore express ideas in a more memorable way.

There are plenty of animations in Microsoft PowerPoint that can be applied to text, shapes or pictures. Some of the most commonly used effects are: Appear, Fade in, Fly in, etc. Sometimes our imagination goes beyond standard PowerPoint animations, so we need to create a more complex, unique animation that no other presentation contains.

There are two ways in which a custom animation can be created:

An animation combo: multiple animations applied to one object

A custom motion path

Let’s delve deeper into both of these options, look into their variations and review some examples.

Custom Animation Combo

A single object on a PowerPoint slide may have many animation effects applied at the same time. Adjusting the settings for each effect will create a combination that most likely will be a unique one.

Tip: You may also turn on Selection Pane to give distinct names to objects on a slide (Home → Select → Selection Pane).

A Combo-animation has now been created! After several effects are assigned to a single object, you can see them stacked at the Animation Pane. When you select the object on a slide, all its animations will be automatically selected in the Animation Pane and the Animation gallery will indicate Multiple.

If you want the animation to repeat, e.g. an object will pulse as it moves, you can set a custom number of repeats within the same window.

Note: iSpring will read infinity value Repeat: Until End of Slide as a 1 because the conversion engine cannot calculate the length of the slide, which is important to proceed. To work around this, set Repeat to any numeric value, e.g. 99, it will imitate a very long repeated action.

Custom Motion Path

For general purposes, a Fly in animation can be used. It will move an object to the final point from any side.However, we cannot control the starting point and trajectory using this simple animation. Applying a motion path will give you full control over object movements around the slide canvas to create precisely what you want.

You can make objects move along the path. To achieve that, do the following:

Select an object.

At the very bottom of the list you will see motion paths. Pick the one that suits your idea.

Transform the path or Edit Points to make fine adjustments. If you choose Custom Path, you can draw freeform. When you are done, press the Esc button.

The green spot will show the initial state of the animation and the red spot represents the final position. If you select the path itself, you will see a ghost object as shown on the picture above.

You can also combine path animations with other animation effects e.g. plane may rotate as it follows the circle path.

Animation refers to the movement and sound accompanying text or slides in your presentation. Using animation with your lists and slides can often add excitement to your presentation by displaying text at crucial moments and making smooth transitions between topics. You can use preset animations or customize the animation to achieve the desired result.

Adding Animation to Slides

Powerpoint 2007 allows you to easily and quickly animate any object in your presentation. Objects include images, charts, text, and SmartArt. Animations may also contain sounds. The following directions will explain how to use the animations that are built into PowerPoint. For information on creating custom animations, refer to Adding a Custom Animation below.

From the View tab, in the Presentation Views group, select NORMAL The Normal view appears.

Adding a Custom Animation

By using the Custom Animations pane, you can have more control over your animations. There are more animations available through the Custom Animations pane, as well.

From the View tab, in the Presentation Views group, select NORMAL The Normal view appears.

From the Add Effect pull-down list, select the desired type of effect ” select your effect

Reordering Animations Using the Custom Animations Pane

The Custom Animations pane also lists all animations for the slide you are currently viewing. You can use this list to control the order of animations. To do so, follow these steps:

Select the slide you want to change

From the Modify: Effect list, select the animation for which you want to change the order

Release the mouse The order of the animations is changed.

Adding Transitions to Slides

Transitions perform an effect as you move from one slide to the next. In PowerPoint 2007 transitions can be easily added to a slide using the Transitions Gallery.

HINTS: It may be tempting to use a different transition for each slide, but doing so may be distracting and appear unprofessional. You should use few slide transitions to provide consistency in your presentation.

On the View tab, from the Presentation Views group, select NORMAL The Normal view appears.

From the Slides tab, select the slide you would like to add a transition toNOTE: The transition you apply will affect how the selected slide appears, not how it disappears.

From the Animations tab, in the Transition to This Slide group, from the Transitions Gallery, select the desired transition.NOTE: You can preview any transition by hovering your cursor over a transition icon in the Transitions Gallery.

To set the speed of the transition, from the Transition Speed pull-down list, select a speed

Removing Transitions

Animations can be removed from objects all at once using the Animations group, or one at a time using the dynamic Custom Animations pane.

Loại hiệu ứng đầu tiên được gọi là Hiệu ứng chuyển tiếp (Transitions); là những hiệu ứng động được sử dụng để có thể thêm một số hiệu ứng chuyển động bắt mắt giữa các slide khi chuyển từ slide 1 sang slide 2. Những tùy chọn này nằm trong bảng chọn Transitions trên thanh cộng cụ PowerPoint.

Các hiệu ứng Transitions còn có các tùy chọn bổ sung. Hãy để ý khi bạn nhấp vào hiệu ứng bạn muốn sử dụng, nút Tùy chọn hiệu ứng (Effect Options) ở góc phải không bị khóa lại, thì có nghĩa là bạn có thể chọn thêm một số cài đặt bổ sung theo ý mình.

Ví dụ, mình chọn Reveal làm Hiệu ứng chuyển tiếp. Các tùy chọn có sẵn sẽ là:

Bạn cũng có thể điều chỉnh thời gian và thời lượng của mỗi lần chuyển đổi cũng như thiết lập cách bạn muốn các trang slide hiện lên để hiệu ứng chuyển đổi được như ý.

Loại hiệu ứng thứ hai sẽ khiến các thành phần ở ngay trong slide của bạn trở nên sống động. Nói đơn giản thì: nếu bạn muốn làm 1 đoạn văn bản, 1 hình ảnh, hình khối hoặc là biểu đồ trên slide “nhảy tưng tưng”, thì đây là loại hiệu ứng dành cho bạn.

Trước tiên, bạn phải nhấp vào đối tượng bạn muốn tạo hiệu ứng, sau đó nhấp vào tab Ảnh động (Animations).

Chế độ xem mặc định hiển thị 8 lựa chọn, nhưng nếu bạn nhấp vào mũi tên nhỏ như trong ảnh trên, bạn sẽ thấy nhiều tùy chọn khác như sau:

Bạn có thể chọn các loại animations sau:

Entrance animations: Thể hiện bằng các biểu tượng có màu xanh lá cây. Nếu bạn sử dụng loại Animations, đối tượng được bạn thêm hiệu ứng sẽ xuất hiện trong slide theo thời gian bạn chọn.

Exit animations: Thể hiện bằng các biểu tượng có màu xanh lá cây. Đối tượng bạn đã thêm animations sẽ thoát ra khỏi slide.

Emphasis animations: Thể hiện bằng các biểu tượng có màu vàng. Đối tượng bạn chọn không di chuyển khỏi vị trí trên slide như 2 loại trên (trừ khi bạn đã thêm Animations khác trước đó), nhưng sẽ có các hiệu ứng nhấn mạnh và thu hút sự chú ý đến nó.

Motion path animations: Loại Animations này cho phép bạn di chuyển đối tượng đã chọn từ điểm này sang điểm khác. Bạn có thể chỉ định hoặc vẽ đường dẫn bạn muốn đối tượng di chuyển.

Cách thêm Animations vào PowerPoint chỉ với 2 bước đơn giản

Để thêm Animations cho bất kỳ đối tượng nào trong PowerPoint, đây là các bước bạn cần làm:

1. Bấm vào đối tượng bạn muốn thêm hiệu ứng. Trong ví dụ này, mình sẽ sử dụng một khuôn mặt cười màu xanh.

2. Chọn Animations bạn muốn sử dụng. Trong ví dụ này, mình đã sử dụng hiệu ứng Entrance Animation – Fade và đặt thời gian diễn ra hiệu ứng là 2,75 giây. Bạn sẽ nhận thấy trong ảnh chụp màn hình bên dưới rằng hiệu ứng Fade không có tùy chọn hiệu ứng (nút bị mờ đi).

Các bước chi tiết như sau:

CHỈ 7 GIỜ HỌC BÀI BẢN, TIẾP KIỆM HÀNG CHỤC NGHÌN GIỜ TRA CỨU

1 – Chọn hiệu ứng Fade.

2 – Không có tùy chọn bổ sung nào cho Fade Animation (nút có màu xám và không thể nhấp được)

3 – Bạn có thể điều chỉnh cài đặt thông qua các khung chọn Animations, chỉnh thời gian diễn ra hiệu ứng hay các tùy chỉnh khác.

4 – Số (1) hiển thị trên chủ thể thể hiện rằng đã có sẵn 1 hiệu ứng cho chủ thể này rồi. (hiệu ứng Fade đã nói đầu tiên).

5 – Bạn có thể nhấp vào nút Xem trước (Preview) để xem trước hiệu ứng chạy ra sao.

Như bạn có thể thấy, việc sử dụng Animations không hề phức tạp chút nào, phải không?

Những điểm quan trọng cần nhớ khi sử dụng Animations

Cách sử dụng Animations khá đơn giản nhưng cũng dễ mất kiểm soát; bạn có khi sẽ lỡ tay thêm Animations vào tất cả các chủ thể trong slide rồi còn thêm cả hiệu ứng chuyển slide, điều này sẽ trở nên không cần thiết. Một điểm nữa, có thể các hiệu ứng trông rất thú vị nhưng cũng có khả năng khiến khán giả mất đi sự chú ý vào thông điệp chính mà bạn đang trình bày đấy!

Apply Multiple Animation Effects

Add multiple animation effects to any object on a PowerPoint slide. Make images fly in, teeter, and fade out. Make words type onto the screen. Create bullet lists that change color as you cover each point and become transparent when you move to the next point. Use your imagination.

To apply multiple animation effects to an object:

Select an animation from one of the different types of effects, such as Entrance, Emphasis, Exit, or Motion Path.

Continue adding animations this way to create the custom animation you desire.

Modify an Animation Effect

After you’ve added multiple animations to an object, change the way the animations appear on the slide.

To modify how an animation acts:

Select Animation Pane. The Animation Pane opens on the right side of the window.

Select the down arrow next to the effect you want to modify. From here, change when the animation starts, the effect options, and the timing.

To change when the animation will start, select one of the following:

Start With Previous: Start the animation at the same time as the previous animation (could be another animation on this slide or the slide transition of this slide).

Start After Previous: Starts the animation when the previous animation or transition has finished.

Re-Order Custom Animation Effects

After applying more than one animation to an object, you may want to re-order the animations.

To change the order of animations:

Select the animation.

Use the arrows at the top of the Animation Pane to move the animation up or down in the list.

Apply a Motion Path Animation

Motion path animation effects allow you to move an object across the slide. Customize these effects as needed.

To create a motion path:

Select the object you want to animate.

In the Animation Gallery, scroll down to Motion Paths at the bottom of the list and choose the motion path you want to use. Choose from Lines, Arcs, Turns, Shapes, and Loops.

To make your own motion path, choose Custom Path. Then, drag to draw the motion path. Press Esc when you’re finished.
